This quest is one of the Fate of the Galaxy pre-quests. |
Level: 75
Description:
- You've agreed to relieve a treasure hunter of a crystal shard he claims has brought him nothing but bad luck. Could it really be cursed?
|
Recommended combat levels: 80 and higher |
Treasure hunter, Menth Paul has a problem... Ever since he picked up an odd crystal shard, bad things have been happening to him, all he wants to do is get rid of the shard and go home. He can't afford the ticket home, but is willing to sell you the crystal shard to afford the ticket. Are you willing to buy this crystal shard that has brought him such bad luck?
Menth Paul
Inside the Cantina area of the Mensix Mining Facility you'll find Menth Paul at /way 385 -1155. Menth has had a run of bad luck ever since he found a crystal shard. He has lost everything except the shard, and will offer to sell it to you for 1000 credits so he can afford a ticket home.
Conversation with Menth Paul[]
Menth Paul: Please, help me... I need to get off this planet.
PC: Why don't you just take the shuttle then friend?
Menth Paul: I've had a string of bad luck and lost everything. That's why I'm hoping that you would want to buy this crystal from me, for the cheap price of a thousand credits.
PC: A thousand credits is a little steep...
Menth Paul: Fine, fine. I'll go down to 500 credits.
PC: Hmm, maybe. Where did you find it?
Menth Paul: You wouldn't believe me if I told you.
PC: I'm very open-minded.
Menth Paul: I came to this place in hopes of finding fortune. One evening, when I was out surveying, I saw the strangest thing. A man that was all covered in strange blue glowing dust was kneeling down, looking at something. He hadn't seen me, so I kept looking at what he was doing. After a while he stood back up and walked away. I ran up to the spot where I saw him, and there in between some rocks, I found this beautiful crystal.
PC: And now you're trying to sell it?
Menth Paul: I've had nothing but bad luck lately and I've lost everything. I need the credits to be able to get back home...
PC: 500 credits is still a lot of money though...
Menth Paul: Then take it for free! Just take the darn thing!
After accepting the shard, you'll get a popup, saying this:
- Cursed?
- As soon as you take the shard in your hand, you get the feeling that you made the wrong decision accepting it. Not really sure what to do with it, you put it away for now. Maybe it will become useful later.
What to do?[]
You're not sure what to do with the supposedly 'cursed' shard, and have decided to just hold onto it until you can figure something out.
Head to /waypoint -963 -1589, you'll get another popup.
/way purple -963 -1589 Cursed Shard I;
- A bad feeling
- Suddenly the crystal that you were given by Menth Paul a while ago springs to life. It's emitting a sharp sound that pierces your ears for a few seconds... Then it goes quiet again, like nothing had ever happened.
This time the crystal is emitting a piercing noise. Once it goes silent, you'll be attacked by three CL70 Tulrus. Once they're dispatched (or you've got away from them) you'll get another popup implying the crystal called them.
- Coincidence?
- That was strange, almost like the crystal that Menth Paul gave you called for those creatures...
Now head to /waypoint -375 1814, where your backpack will become warm, indicating another attack.
/way purple -375 1814 Cursed Shard II;
- Is it dangerous?
- Suddenly your backpack becomes really warm. As you take it off and look inside, you see the that the crystal Menth Paul gave you earlier is glowing red, sizzling and melting things around it. When you cover your hands and reach for it, it all of a sudden stops glowing and is now cold to the touch, like what you just saw had never happened.
This time it's a pair of Elite, CL80 Smoldering Lava Fleas. Your best bet here is to run as far and as fast as you can, preferably to the southeast, or just let them kill you and clone back to the mining facility to avoid the long return trip (this works nicely if you plan to take option B below). The next time your crystal tells you to do something, something seems to happen about five to ten minutes later wherever you are.
- Coincidence?
- That was strange, almost like the crystal that Menth Paul gave you called for those creatures...
The cursed shard, part II[]
Level: 75
Rewards:
- 100,005 XP
- Microsensory Mesh Gloves
Description:
- The shard indeed seems cursed with something. You've decided to get rid of it as it's brought you nothing but trouble.
|
Recommended combat levels: 80 and higher |
- Too much
- You can feel warmth emitting from Menth Paul's shard again. Not as hot this time but you can swear that you hear a voice whispering in your head '...this can all go away, just set me free...' over and over again. You may want to think about getting rid of this cursed thing.
As this point, you can decide what you want to do do with the crystal.
- Solution A - Destroy the Crystal
Destroy the menace[]
You've decided to get rid of the shard, that indeed does seem to be cursed somehow. In the center of this continent, there's an enormous active volcano. You've heard that a bridge goes across the river of fresh molten lava descending the volcano from the north. Throwing the crystal in to the lava from there should destroy it once and for all.
After escaping the fleas, wait a few mintues and the shard will again spring to life, and gleefully prods you to keep going.
- What it wants?
- As you get closer to the volcano, the shard springs to life again and the whispers in your head grows stronger '...yes, keep going! Set me free at last! I can't take anymore...'
Reaching the center of the bridge at /way 34 1334, you toss the shard into the lava.
- Time to end it
- You take one last look at the shard and then toss it in to the molten lava. As it sizzles and disappears under the surface, you can swear that you hear a whisper saying '...Free, finally I'm fr...'
As it's disappearing into the floe, you hear it one last time, very happy to be destroyed and set free.
- The tide turns
- As you start to leave the area you notice something shining among the rubble of lava rocks at your feet. It looks to be a pair of strange alien gloves! Maybe the bad luck the cursed shard brought with it is gone already...
Finally a pair of Microsensory Mesh Gloves are added to your inventory.
- Solution B - Convince Uggo to take the Crystal from you
Not your problem[]
You've decided to get rid of the shard, that indeed does seem to be cursed somehow. Maybe you should try and find someone to give it to and let them deal with it.
Uggo
After escaping the fleas, wait a few minutes and the shard will again spring to life, and gleefully prods you to keep going. Instead of throwing the shard into the lava, you can avoid the trip and go back to Mensix Mining Facility and convince Uggo (/Way 383, -1168 purple) to take the crystal.
/Way 383 -1168 Uggo;
Inform him that the shard will make food and water, only at night. You are very happy to rid yourself of the crystal. Finally a pair of Microsensory Mesh Gloves are added to your inventory.
Conversation with Uggo[]
Uggo: What you want?
PC: I'm here to offer you a deal of a lifetime!
Uggo: I have job to do. Unless it food, I not interested!
PC: Well, it's not food, but look at this crystal! Pretty eh?
Uggo: Sure is shiny...
PC: I know! You offer me something nice in return and it's yours!
Uggo: So...what it do?
PC: Do? It brings you great luck and fortune!
Uggo: I already have luck and fortune.
PC: Oh...and food. I forgot to mention it can make food of water!
Uggo: Get out of here! That would be so good! Wait a minute. You show first! You think I a fool?!
PC: I can't. It only works during night time.
Uggo: Ohh yeah, that makes sense. Alright, you take this. I take shiny.
The Microsensory Mesh Gloves grant you the Healer's Touch buff, adding +20 Agility and Stamina.
