Original Planets
Upon release of the game in 2003, 10 planets were open for visitation: Tatooine, Naboo, Talus, Rori, Corellia, Lok, Dantooine, Dathomir, Endor and Yavin 4. Of these, Tatooine, Naboo, Talus, Rori and Corellia were considered "starting planets," planets immediately available after Character Creation was completed. Later, after amassing enough experience, players could travel to the five more advanced planets.

Kashyyyk
Kashyyyk, a verdant and tree-covered world, was introduced in the Rage of the Wookiees expansion. The diminutive planetary map that is shown upon arrival suggests that Kashyyyk is much smaller than the other worlds. However, the planet is divided into many different zones, such as Kachirho, the Etyyy Hunting Grounds, the Rryatt Trail, each with its own map and unique temperament. The zones are of varying difficulty, as well; Kachirho, the player's starting location, is a generally friendly place with peaceful animals, while places like the Rryatt Trail are more dangerous.

Original planets
In addition to having a different layout from the other planets, Kashyyyk also differes from the original planets because it has large expanses of "blocked" land that can not be traversed by the player. This means that most gameplay is confined to the given trail, and players can not take shortcuts through more rugged terrain.

Mustafar
Mustafar, introduced in the Trials of Obi-Wan expansion, is a world dominated by massive, fire-spewing volcanoes. It has a more traditional layout than Kashyyyk, although its map is somewhat smaller. Also, unlike the other planets, a cutscene plays upon arriving to the planet, and the loading screen has a different format.

Although there is much more exploratory freedom than Kashyyyk, there are still some areas that players cannot cross, such as the mountains in the northeast.

Lok
Lok, a planet belonging to the Karthakk System, is a barren wasteland run by a famous Feeorin pirate and smuggler named Nym . Although he is eager to hire individuas for sometimes unlawful activities, he is known to help the Rebel Alliance on occasion. Nym controls the influx of individuals to his planet by making sure that his starport is the only one on the entire planet.Lok has always been a pirate world, and is full of dangers. Many NPCs are hostile thugs that will attack you on sight. The wildlife is also very dangerous. The Kimogila , perhaps Lok's most famous creature, has strength and size that competes with Tatooine's Krayt Dragons. Because of this, Lok is more advanced than the previous five planets and serves as a transition from the starting worlds to the adventure worlds; it has a large city with large structures like Tatooine, Naboo etc. but is also more dangerous than these planets.

Some notable points of interest are Nym's Palace, the Great Maze of Lok , Mount Chaolt and Kimogila Town.

NPC Cities
: Lok has only one city, Nym's Stronghold. Nym's Stronghold is also the only place on the planet to hold a star port. It is the home of Nym's Palace, where players can begin Nym's Theme Park. The stronghold is also where players can begin the Lok Marathon Race, a lengthy race that takes place outside of the city. In addition to Nym's Stronghold, Lok also sports a large, built-up Lok Imperial Outpost. The outpost is similar to a city, except for its lack of a star port.

Architecture
: The architecture on Lok is similar to that of Tatooine, and is considered Tatooine Architecture. Players can place Tatooine style structures on Tatooine, Lok and Dantooine.

: The buildings in Nym's Stronghold are very similar to Tatooine's buildings, except that they are dirtier overall.

Landscape and Weather
: Lok, at first glance, is very similar to Tatooine, due to its expanses of desert and its similar architecture. However, Lok is more of a wasteland than anything. Bubbling sulfur pits are scattered throughout the map, as well as long expanses of baked desert filled with weeds and dead plants. The buildings are dirty and the entire planet appears to be faded and tan. Only a few patches of green are ever spotted. There are few areas of water on Lok, and those that are present are dark and murky. A giant volcano, Mount Chaolt, sits in the southeast.

: Weather on Lok is often dry and arid. Like Tatooine, dust storms occur very frequently.

Dantooine
Dantooine is an unspoiled planet dominated by sprawling purple grasslands. The native species, the Dantari , live along the coasts and rarely pose a threat to players unless provoked. Although they are primitive, they are, in an evolutionary sense, Dantooine's highest native life from. Dantooine is famous for its rebel base, which was the Alliance's most important outpost for a long while. However, when they discovered a tracking device in one of their freighters, they hurriedly abandoned the entire base in a single day.

Although walking about in the Dantooinian wilderness is not as dangerous as it is in Lok, there are many places, particularly in caves, that are much more dangerous than Lok and should be explored with great caution. Like Lok, it is similar to a transition between the starting worlds and the advanced worlds due to players' ability to place houses, but lack of substantial cities.

Some interesting areas on Dantooine include The Warren , the Abandoned Rebel Base, and the Dantari Rock Village.

NPC Cities
: Dantooine lacks real cities, and only sports three small outposts. These are the Dantooine Imperial Outpost, the Dantooine Mining Outpost , and the Dantooine Pirate Outpost. They all have spaceports, as well as smaller versions of common city amenities (cloning facilities, cantinas etc.). The mining outpost is shown as the most popular Dantooine outpost on most servers.

Architecture
: Dantooine has no real buildings, aside from the ones in the outposts, so its architectural style can be considered generic. This style is available on all planets that accept player buildings. Player houses and buildings on Dantooine can be built in Naboo and Tatooine styles, however.

Landscape and Weather
: Dantooine is full of large oceans and huge purple fields. Some mountains are present, as well as trees. The sky is a uniform shade of blue. However, its landscape has is generally uninteresting.

: Dantooine's weather is not extremely special. It does rain occasionally, but it does so on nearly every planet anyway.

Yavin 4
Yavin 4 is the fourth moon of the orange gas giant Yavin. It is a jungle world, known for housing a major rebel base after the Dantooine base was abandoned. It is over this moon's parent planet that the famous Battle of Yavin took place. After the rebel base there was abandoned, however, it has become a quiet place.

Yavin 4 is the first of the three advanced worlds, planets that can not be colonized by player characters and that have no real cities. Because of this, it can take a long time to reach certain points of interest. The wildlife on Yavin 4 is decidedly dangerous, and most will attack you on sight. Many have ranged "weaponry" that can destroy you if you are not careful. There are even miniature sarlacc pits scattered throughout the wilderness, waiting for you to find them. Some notable points of interest on Yavin 4 are the Temple of Exar K'un, the Temple of the Blueleaf, the Massassi Temple, and Woolamander Palace.

NPC Cities
: There are outposts, rather than cities on Yavin 4. These are the Yavin Imperial Base, the Yavin Labor Outpost and the Yavin Mining Outpost. They all have spaceports and are nestled in opposite corners of the map.

Architecture
: Players are not allowed to build houses on Yavin 4. However, some magnificent architecture is seen in the Yavin temples. The Great Massassi Temple is an enormous, striking pyramid shaped structure built long ago by the native Massassi. It is the site of the former Rebel Base that was present during the Battle of Yavin. Since then, it has been occupied by Imperial forces. The Temple of Exar Kun is another temple on Yavin 4. However, this one is thought to be inhabited by the spirit of Exar Kun, a Sith lord. It is a dark, gloomy structure, but is still an amazing piece of architecture. The Temple of the Blueleaf is another Massassi Temple, and has a lavishly decorated interior. Much of the temple is comprised of a vast opening with alcoves along its sides.

Star Wars Galaxies allows the player to visit various planets of the Star Wars universe.

With new extensions some new planets were added. Most planets can have player cities and also feature planet-specific weather effects e.g sandstorms on Tatooine.

Each planet's in-game day takes real-time hours. Tatooine, Naboo, and Corellia are on a 3 hour cycle. Dantooine, Yavin 4, Talus, and Endor are on a 2 hour cycle. Dathomir, Lok, and Rori are on a 1.5 hour, 1 hour, and 30 minute cycle, respectively.

Features

All planets have at least one NPC city/outpost, although only six have respectably sized cities.

On seven planets (Tatooine, Naboo, Rori, Talus, Corellia, Lok and Dantooine), players can place any type of buildable structure and create player cities. On three planets (Dathomir, Endor and Yavin 4), players may not place houses or shops, only resource harvesters and similar structures. No buildings may be placed on Mustafar or Kashyyyk.

Every original planet has a planetary map filled with points of interest (POIs). Sometimes these adhere to some sort of quest, and some are purely for sight-seeing.

Tatooine

Tatooine is a planet filled with rolling sand dunes and vast expanses of desert. It is one of the more dangerous starting planets due to its sometimes deadly wildlife.

After the New Game Enhancements were implemented, all new players were dropped off by Han Solo in Mos Eisley, Tatooine, after leaving Tansarii Point Station. From there, players were started on the Legacy Quests. This means that Tatooine is generally one of the most populated planets in Star Wars Galaxies.

Some areas of interest include Fort Tusken, Jabba's Palace, and the Great Pit of Carkoon.

NPC Cities

Tatooine has the most NPC cities of any planet, with seven. These are Anchorhead , Bestine, Mos Eisley, Mos Entha, Mos Espa, Mos Taike, and Wayfar. Bestine is a well-known Imperial stronghold, while Anchorhead is an Alliance stronghold. Many of them have remained somewhat similar in structure since 2003. However, Wayfar, originally lacking a shuttleport and a spaceport, gained a shuttleport to make travel to the city easier.
Wayfar is one of three cities that celebrates Life Day. Mos Eisley takes part in the Galactic Moon Festival.

Architecture

Tatooine/Lok architecture is very distinctive; most buildings are sandy colored stone buildings that usually lack windows to keep out the sun's glare. Tatooine style houses are buildable on Tatooine, Lok and Dantooine.

Landscape and Weather

Tatooine is filled with sand dunes and long expanses of baked desert. There is little vegetation or water on the planet's surface. Organisms living on this world are specially adapted to the extreme temperature range.
Tatooine has twin suns, and so it is high in temperature during the day and low in temperature during the nights. Duststorms regularly occur at ranom places on the planet and can reduce visibility for a few minutes.

Naboo

Naboo is a lush, green planet filled with magnificent cities and flowing rivers. It has three moons, which are during the night hours. It is usually the next step after Tatooine and is probably the easiest planet in the game. Much of its wildlife is harmless, and, unlike most planets, its main attractions are not in the wilderness.

Some areas of interest are the Emperor's Retreat, the Dee'ja Peak Waterfall ,the Gungan Sacred Place and the Keren Street Race.

NPC Cities

Naboo has five NPC cities. These are Dee'ja Peak, Kaadara, Keren, Moenia, and Theed. Many of them are near rivers (Keren), waterfalls (Dee'ja Peak and Theed), swamps (Moenia), or water in general (Kaadara). Moenia, has a reputation as an artist's retreat, and so is left alone by the Empire. It is the planet's Alliance stronghold. Dee'ja Peak is the planet's Imperial stronghold.
The Galactic Moon Festival is celebrated in Moenia.

Architecture

Naboo architecture makes much use of domes, usually colored green. Players can build structures of this style on Dantooine, Naboo and Rori.

Landscape and Weather

Naboo is dominated by rolling hills and grasslands, with a few trees scattered about. There are many lakes and rivers, as well as scenic waterfalls.
Naboo generally has pleasant weather. Rain isn't as common as it is on some other planets. When near a swamp, however, the landscape becomes foggy and the difference between night and day is somewhat blurred, as the sun is barely visible. Moenia is built in this foggy environment.

Corellia

Corellia is a large world with well-developed cities such as Coronet and Tyrena. It sports a number of attractions, such as the Agrilat Crystal Swamps and a large rebel base. Much of its wildlife is not very dangerous, which is why it was once considered a starting planet. It is in the center of all of the game's hyperspace routes, which makes it an ideal place for trade.

NPC Cities

Corellia has six NPC cities: Bela Vistal, Coronet, Doaba Guerfel, Kor Vella, Tyrena and Vreni Island. Unlike the cities on Naboo, Tatooine, Rori and Lok, Corellian cities are filled with towering skyscrapers and bright lights. Bela Vistal is the planet's Imperial stronghold, and Vreni Isand is the planet's Rebel stronghold.
Doaba Guerfel is one of three cities that celebrates Life Day.

Architecture

Corellian architecture is marked by tall buildings featuring a distinctive curve at their tops. Many Corellian cities also have small gates with bright lights adorning their sides. Architecture of Corellian NPC cities seems to be different by city; towns like Kor Vella and Vreni Island feature short grey buildings with slanted sides, while larger cities like Coronet and Tyrena feature more curved buildings with windows.
Players can build Corellian Style Architecture in Talus and Corellia.

Landscape and Weather

Corellia is a very yellow world, marked by rolling yellow fields and bright yellow skies. Most trees are coniferous. Corellia also has high, snow-capped mountains along its edge.
A large, swirling cloud formation, as well as several moons can always be seen in the skies of Corellia. However, there is very little weather exclusive to Corellia. It is important to note that when players enter the Agrilat Swamps, the sky turns blue and hazy, similar to the way the sky turns green and hazy when entering a Naboo swamp.

Rori

Rori is one of three moons of Naboo. It was officially colonized long ago by King Narmle, who dreamt of making Rori into as great a world as Naboo. However, he disappeared later in his life, likely due to his failure to realize that dream. Since then, Rori has been seen as "property" of Naboo and constantly trades with its parent planet. It is not densely populated and is one of the more difficult beginning planets.

Some notable attractions include the Rori Gungan's Swamp Town and the Garyn Raider's Bunker.

NPC Cities

When the game began in 2003, there were two major cities on Rori: Narmle and Restuss. However, in 2006, Restuss was transformed into a massive PvP area/experience, leaving Narmle as the only regular city on the planet.

Architecture

Rori architecture is the same as that of Naboo and is called Naboo Architecture. It is buildable on Naboo, Rori and Dantooine.

Landscape and Weather

Rori is an even more lush planet than Naboo. In forested areas, it trees are very densely packed, and large swamps and marshes cover the entire planet. It is covered by oppresive grey-blue skies. Rori is also more mountainous than its parent planet.
Rain is typically more common on Rori than it is on Naboo, due to the thick cloud layer.

Talus

Talus is another planet in the Corellian system, and orbits with its sister planet, Tralus, around a common center of gravity. Although it is similar to Corellia, it isn't as well known and is much less populated. Talus is more difficult than Corellia, but its wildlife is usually easy to handle. Some notable points of interest are the Detainment Center ,the Lost Village of Durbin, and the Kahmurra Biogenetic Research Facility .

NPC Cities

There are two major NPC cities on Talus: Dearic and Nashal . Dearic is the larger of the two, and is the capital of Talus. Nashal is smaller, but is unique due to its position around a wide river. In addition, a star-shaped fort called the Talus Imperial Outpost is present on Talus and contains a spaceport, which is unusual for an outpost. This makes it similar to a city.
Dearic is the largest of the three cities that celebrates Life Day.

Architecture

The architecture of Talus is the same as that on Corellia and is referred to as Corellian Architecture. Players are allowed to built Corellian Architecture on Corellia and Talus. The buildings in Dearic and Nashal greatly resemble those found in Tyrena and Coronet.

Landscape and Weather

Talus's landscape is similar to that of Corellia. However, it is much greener and is more densely wooded. There are also more rivers and bodies of water on Talus than on Corellia. Talus's sky is a rich purple hue, unlike the yellow skies of Corellia.
Talus is susceptible to more rain than Corellia, but is otherwise the same.
