/way Tatooine -1174 -3647 Gil Burtin;

This NPC is a Freelance Pilot Coordinator. You must talk to a coordinator in order to resign from your current squadron.

Conversation with a Freelance Pilot[]

Freelance Pilot: Are you looking for the Free Pilots Guild? I have what you might describe as a 'good news, bad news' situation.
PC: What's the bad news?
Freelance Pilot: There is no Free Pilots Guild any more. Bad enough for you?
PC: Why not?
Freelance Pilot: Shut down by order of the Empire! I guess they don't want anybody fooling around in space unless they fly a TIE fighter for the Imperial Navy!
PC: I don't want to fly a TIE fighter.
Freelance Pilot: Then I think you should talk to Gil. He can direct you to CorSec or the Royal Security Forces. You won't have to fly a TIE fighter, I can assure you!
PC: Where is Gil?
Freelance Pilot: He's in the lounge, playing bartender for this little party. Between us, I think he's been drowning his sorrows a bit between pilot interviews. Don't let that stop you, though. He was the founder of the Free Pilots Guild, after all. I can only imagine how this has affected him.
PC: Can I get a drink?
Freelance Pilot: I don't know. Ask Gil.
PC: What are you doing here then?
Freelance Pilot: Well, I'm... Hmm. Let me think...
PC: You don't know?
Freelance Pilot: There's really nothing left for me now. I haven't had any time to figure out my next move. I'm thinking that I'm going to need to pick up a job with the shuttle services... and that's going to be horrible!
PC: Why so horrible?
Freelance Pilot: I don't think you appreciate the sort of safety violations that are running rampant through the transportation service!
PC: Safety violations? By whom?
Freelance Pilot: The Empire has installed military jurisdiction over the galactic transit services. It's a special oversight group that sets flight schedules, repair budgets, and so forth. It's a nightmare!
PC: How is this a nightmare?
Freelance Pilot: In the old days, a transport pilot was never allowed to run more than two shifts back-to-back. Now, the Empire's oversight plan has pilots running as many as they can handle. A Zabrak buddy of mine logged more than a dozen shifts in a row just last week!
PC: That sounds harsh!
Freelance Pilot: And that's not all! The equipment is suffering just as much. Most transports are supposed to receive regular maintenance four times each cycle... but I know of a few here in Bestine that haven't seen maintenance for over nine months!
PC: That's awful.
Freelance Pilot: I agree... but what can anyone do?

Conversation with Gil Burtin[]

Gil Burtin: Yes?
PC: I've come to join the Pilots Guild.
Gil Burtin: Indeed? Well, shame about that. We've had some trouble you see...
PC: What trouble?
Gil Burtin: Well it's Imperial Decree 875a subparagraph 13! The Pilots Guild used to oversee almost all aspects of space travel from training new pilots to establishing preferred travel routes, but the Emperor won't even allow us to distribute 'The Basics of Space Flight' without express written consent.
PC: What is 'The Basics of Space Flight'?
Gil Burtin: Oh, handy book, that. Explained all an aspiring pilot needs to know about piloting privately-owned starships. Travel routes, where to go to get private contracts, how to get certified by the necessary authorities to engage in commerce... you know, all that sort of stuff.
PC: Why don't you get permission to distribute it then?
Gil Burtin: On a case-by-case basis? Impossible! Do you have any idea how many pilots there are in the galaxy? Thousands! Hundreds of thousands! Millions!
PC: I see.
Gil Burtin: That's not the half of it! Imperial Decree 875a subparagraph 19 mandates that we still engage in recruitment activities - you know, job fairs and mass recruitments and that sort of thing - but then any potential recruits are directed straight to the Imperial Academy.
PC: So where is the Imperial Academy?
Gil Burtin: You mean you actually WANT to fly for the Empire? There's a war on, you know. It's very dangerous.
PC: Yes I do.
Gil Burtin: Oh. Well... then why did you come to see me? The Empire dumps more recruitment on the Holonet daily than we do in a year.
PC: I was just nearby.
Gil Burtin: I see. Well... in that case... say you don't really want to fly for the Empire, do you?
PC: Do I have a choice?
Gil Burtin: Of course you have a choice. We all have choices. There are still... other places you could go to get some basic flight training.
PC: What other places?
Gil Burtin: I don't blame you for not wanting to fly for the Empire. It's dangerous what with the Rebel Alliance and all. Do you have any idea what the kill ratio of X-wings to TIE Fighters is?
PC: No, what is it?
Gil Burtin: Well... I don't actually know, but I bet it isn't very good.
PC: Where else can I learn to be a pilot?
Gil Burtin: Lots of places! Look, CorSec off on Corellia is a prime example. They're always looking for new recruits. And there's the RSF on Naboo, as well. Not to mention work you could get right here in the Outer Rim. Or even the Rebel Alliance, if you don't mind getting executed. What sort of piloting are you interested in?
PC: Rebel Alliance?
Gil Burtin: Say, that's pretty dangerous. Going up against the Empire's huge fleet with nothing but whatever ragtag bunch you can get to oppose them? Still, I suppose the Empire DID destroy Alderaan...
PC: Tell me more.
Gil Burtin: Ok, but you didn't hear this from me... Meet this fellow in the park in front of the Tyrena Starport. He can tell you where to go from there.
PC: On second thought... never mind.
Gil Burtin: Oh... well how about CorSec or the RSF? Are you interested in that?
PC: CorSec?
Gil Burtin: That's right. Corellian Security. Since Corellia is officially neutral in this whole Empire versus the Alliance business, they've got to provide for their own defense. Some of the best pilots in the galaxy come from Corellia, you know?
PC: Tell me more.
Gil Burtin: Here, I'll add this location to your datapad... Go to CorSec headquarters on Coronet. It's just down the street from the starport. Go inside and talk to the CorSec Pilot trainer. He can tell you all about CorSec and get you signed-up!
PC: On second thought... never mind.
Gil Burtin: Oh... well how about the RSF or work here on Tatooine? Are you interested in that sort of thing?
PC: RSF?
Gil Burtin: Yes. Royal Security Force. Talk about a cushy job! Think of it as Naboo's version of CorSec... only, of course, Naboo's also got the Empire defending it. It is the Emperor's home world, you know!
PC: Tell me more.
Gil Burtin: Here, I'll add this location to your datapad... go see the RSF Pilot trainer in the Theed Palace. He can tell you all about the RSF. He'll probably bore you to death with long flowery speeches about their 'noble history' and all that nonsense.
PC: On second thought... never mind.
Gil Burtin: Oh... well how about CorSec or work here on Tatooine? Are you interested in that sort of thing?
PC: Tatooine?
Gil Burtin: Yes. Well... not really my thing, you understand, but there has always been a certain... ah... 'fringe element' on the outer worlds. Smugglers, ruffians, pirates, thugs... that sort of thing.
PC: Tell me more.
Gil Burtin: Here, I'll add this location to your datapad... this is the Mos Eisley cantina. They don't get a lot of attention from the law out here in the Tatooine system, so there's always someone there looking for pilots willing to brave the wild frontier, so to speak.
PC: Thanks. Bye!
Gil Burtin: Take care, friend.

Conversation with Ty'Vila[]

Ty'Vila: What was that? I'm sorry - I'm finding it hard to concentrate.
PC: Who are you?
Ty'Vila: I'm Ty'Vila and I used to work for Gil Burtin and the Free Pilots Guild. Now... I'm nothing!
PC: What's wrong?
Ty'Vila: Nothing. Nothing....
